The strange relationship between truth and money long predates cryptocurrency — by thousands of years. Cowrie shells were all the rage 400 years ago (“porcelain of the ocean”), and keep in mind that banknotes were printed by banks, and sometimes/often became completely worthless. Only in the 20th century, after numerous bank failures, did we establish the Federal Reserve system (“In God we trust”).
